We Love Pumpkins!

Pumpkin week was so exciting!  The kids got to examine a few real pumpkins and touch and feel them.  We talked about how pumpkins grow from seeds and grow on vines.

The Pre-Kindergarten classes even got to examine the inside of the pumpkins which was a first for many of these kids!  They were so fascinated and anxiously watched as we cut into the pumpkins.

Some eagerly got their hands dirty in the squishy insides of the pumpkin while many others cautiously watched.  : )

I love when children get to fully engage in hands-on learning!

We also painted little pumpkins this week!  Of course, we learned about the color orange as we painted!  The kids learned that red and yellow make orange--something I love teaching children.  It's always quite magical as they see two colors mix together to make a new color!

Their pumpkins turned out great and next week we'll put faces on them to transform them into jack-o-lanterns!

We also learned and sang "The 5 Little Pumpkins".  The kids all thoroughly enjoyed this little song!
5 little pumpkins, sitting on a gate.
The 1st one said, "Oh my! It's getting late."
The 2nd one said, "There's witches in the air."
The 3rd one said, "But we don't care."
The 4th one said, "Let's run and run and run!"
The 5th one said, "We're ready for some fun!"
Then o-o-o went the wind, and out went the lights
and the 5 little pumpkins rolled out of sight.
Working together to finish a scarecrow puzzle during centers.
Playing with the little critters from one of our new toys during centers!

This week's letter was "P" for Pumpkins!  Be sure to review and point out the letters and numbers we're working on in preschool to help solidify your child's comprehension.

Fall and Scarecrows!

Fall is in the air!!  I love teaching preschoolers about the seasons!  They enjoyed learning about fall and how the seasons change and noticing that the leaves are beginning to change colors.
We also learned about scarecrows and how farmers sometimes use them in their corn fields in the fall.  We read some fun scarecrow stories and then made a scarecrow to take home.  The children liked gluing the clothes and hat on their scarecrow as well as a stick to hold it up!

The kids drew a face on their scarecrow and many drew pumpkins so their scarecrow could be in a pumpkin patch!
They all turned out very cute!  Well done!

This class was so funny as they all pretended to be scarecrows.  Check out their very scary expressions!
We learned the letter "F" this week for FALL!  The Pre-Kindergarten kids made Fancy F's with magic glue, glitter, sequins, stickers, and feathers!

Working on ABC and shape puzzles!
Building with Legos and reading stories!
The kids are loving our new kitchen in our back preschool room!  They really enjoy cooking and role-playing which help them in their social and emotional development as they learn through play!
Busy little ones during centers!

We Belong in our Community!

This week we learned about belonging in our community.  We talked about how our community is our neighborhood and our city and the people around us that help everything run like the police officers, fire fighters, mail carriers, store cashiers, farmers, etc.
Some of the children enjoyed playing with our community road map as part of centers this week.

In preparation for our field trip to the post office in our community, the children made a letter "M" project and got it ready to mail to someone at their house on our field trip.  This way, the children would get to see how the mail system works and enjoy the anticipation and excitement of knowing the mail carrier would deliver their letter to their house!

Thankfully, we had great weather for our walking field trip and wonderful parents who came with us!  It was fun to see many businesses and buildings in our community.

Once at the post office, we learned what happens to letters and packages when they get dropped off there.

The children were all very excited to put their own letter in the mail box and send it on its way complete with stamp and address!

The Pre-Kindergarten classes got to dress up as community helpers for one of their projects.

Many of them even practiced being a community helper!  They really had a blast role playing and working together.

These pictures were too cute to pass up!  These kids were tasting different kinds of apples for snack after they learned about apples!
And this cutie was quite proud of herself for putting all of these puzzles together during centers!  What an accomplishment!
What a joy it is to teach all of your beautiful children and to see them learn and grow!
